Neptune rules everything that dissolves the ordinary limits of the ego: dreams, ideals, imagination, diffuse spirituality, and emotional fusion. Its name comes from the Roman god of the seas, equated with the Greek Poseidon, master of the deep and unfathomable oceans. Like the ocean, Neptune cannot be grasped: it drowns certainties, blurs reference points, and invites a more intuitive, more permeable, and often more artistic perception of the world. In the birth chart, it points to the capacity to connect with something that goes beyond the narrow self.

Where Neptune is active, tangible reality fades in favor of heightened sensitivity, sometimes overwhelming empathy, or a quest for the absolute. It is not the planet of precision or mastery, but of openness, permeability, and deep creativity. It governs music and poetry just as much as illusions, disillusionment, and the necessity of letting go.
