Sedna is one of the most distant objects ever observed in the solar system, on an orbit that takes her hundreds of times the Earth-Sun distance away. She carries the name of an Inuit sea goddess, abandoned by her own people and who became the mother of the sea animals. In astrology, Sedna is associated with a founding betrayal and the slow resilience that follows it. In your AstralPro report, she only appears if she forms a very tight contact with one of your personal points.
Sedna (number 90377) was discovered in November 2003 by Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo and David Rabinowitz, the same team that would identify Eris in January 2005. She measures about a thousand kilometers and her surface is one of the reddest in the solar system.
Her orbit is extraordinary: at her closest point, she stays about 76 times the Earth-Sun distance away, well beyond Neptune; at her farthest point, she moves out to more than 900 times that distance. She takes about 11,400 years to go around the Sun. She is approaching her perihelion, which she will reach around 2076, and this is what made it possible to detect her. Her status as a dwarf planet is not official, but she is often cited as a candidate.
Because she moves very slowly, Sedna has occupied the same sign for decades: she stayed in Aries until the mid-1960s, then crossed Taurus until the mid-2020s. Her position alone therefore describes an entire generation.
The Inuit myth of Sedna exists in several versions. In one often-told version, a young woman is taken out to sea by her father, who throws her overboard to save his own life. She clings to the edge of the boat; he cuts off her fingers, joint after joint. Each fragment falls into the water and becomes a sea animal: seals, walruses, whales.
Sedna sinks to the bottom of the ocean, where she now reigns. Hunters depend on her: when she is angry, she holds back the animals, and a shaman must go down to comb her hair, which she can no longer untangle on her own. The wound is not erased, it becomes a form of authority.
The astrology of Sedna, which is recent, is organized around three ideas:
These themes are heavy, and a contact from Sedna does not mean that a betrayal has taken place. It rather indicates a particular sensitivity to trust, to dependence and to the ability to rebuild oneself alone. AstralPro reads it as a psychological thread, never as an announced event.
The nuances change according to the point touched. In contact with the Moon, Sedna questions emotional security and what one expected from those close; with Venus, the trust given within a bond; with Mars, the ability to defend oneself and to hold on over time; with the Sun or the Ascendant, an identity that asserted itself starting from a rupture. She is often compared with Pluto: Pluto transforms through crisis, Sedna through patience, over a much longer time.
Sedna follows the common rule for celestial points. A contact is only retained for a major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) within an orb of 2° at most with your Sun, your Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, your Ascendant or your Midheaven. The slow planets are not targets: a contact between Sedna and Neptune, for example, is shared by an entire generation and says nothing about you in particular.
Unlike Chariklo or Éros, Sedna cannot come out as a “position only”: no life domain calls for her. This is an AstralPro choice, which prefers that a slow point so heavy with meaning be mentioned only when it closely touches your chart.
For Camille Morel, AstralPro's sample chart (fictional data), the engine finds no tight contact between Sedna and her seven personal points. Sedna therefore does not appear in her report: neither in the positions table, nor in the “Aspects of the celestial points” grid, nor in the text. This is the rule, not a gap.
In Camille's chart, the celestial points that speak are those that have a contact (Pholus, Hygiea, Chariklo) and those that a domain names as a position only (Éros, Psyché, Nessus, Dejanira). If your chart carries a contact from Sedna, you will read it in the block of the point concerned, with the orb that justifies it.
